Why it exists

Search a Windows error code at two in the morning and you get twenty pages that all say the same four things: run the troubleshooter, reset SoftwareDistribution, run SFC, reinstall Windows. Some of that advice is fine. Almost none of it tells you what the code actually means or which log holds the answer.

ITKab is the version I wanted: the code, what it really means, the causes that show up in practice, the commands, and the log to open. Nothing padded out to hit a word count.

Who writes it

I am Christian Kaba, a platform administrator working in endpoint management. I manage Tanium across an environment of more than 25,000 endpoints, covering patching, compliance, inventory, and endpoint management, and I work with CrowdStrike Falcon and Absolute Secure Endpoint alongside it. Before that I worked in IT operations for the City of Atlanta and Atlanta Public Schools, and at a Tanium partner.

Most of what ends up here started as a problem I had to solve at work.

How entries are checked

Every error code entry is checked against Microsoft documentation before it is published, and each one links to the page it was checked against. Where Microsoft documents a cause or a mitigation, that is what you get. Where I add something from experience, it is because I have seen it, not because it seemed likely.

If a code cannot be verified, it does not get an entry. An empty space is more useful than a confident guess when someone is following your instructions on a production machine.

What this site is not

• It is not a support service. I cannot troubleshoot your environment.
• It is not affiliated with Microsoft, Tanium, CrowdStrike, or any vendor named on it.
• It is not a place where advice gets published because it might work.
